What's New in 2010

March 2010

Well, it is hard to believe but the first two months of the new year are already over!!  It has literally flown by.  We were very busy over Christmas with grooming every day through December.  We had a lovely quiet Christmas, and then the chaos started all over again!!   Between increased grooming and loads of boarding dogs  there hasn't been a dull day here at all!!   Now we have the excitement of getting new windows throughout the house!  I am beginning to question this home ownership stuff--the townhouse I owned before was a condo--I didn't need to worry about all these things!!  But when you see the dogs running through the backyard, enjoying just total abandonment in their play, it is worth it!   I have also entered the realm of higher internet speed--after 2 years of dial up, we are on a rural disc now, and although not high speed, it is much faster than before!  So, keeping the website updated with pictures will be much easier!

We are waiting for Kadie to come into heat and have picked out a beautiful bi-black boy for her big date.  So, hopefully we will have puppies later this spring.  It should be a sable and tri coloured litter.  This will likely be Kadie's only litter, so I am hoping for big things!  I will keep the litters page updated as things start to happen!

June 2010

Where has the spring gone??  It has just flown by!  Between work, yardwork, and attempting to control the "wall of weeds" in the backyard, I haven't had much time to just enjoy the lovely weather.  Hopefully things quieten down soon, and we can enjoy the summer.  I can't complain about lack of work!!  Kadie's pregnancy is progressing along nicely, although she isn't enjoying being pregnant.  She doesn't know what to think of this movement in her tummy!  I put in my request for a show tri girl, so we will have to wait and see what happens--another week to go.   We have also been doing a lot of work in the house--all new windows, thanks to all the boarding dogs we had over the winter months.  Now we need to save up for the bathroom renovation and some day, dormers for this roof!!   I am taking a few days off at the end of July to hit some dogs shows in the area, and am looking forward to sitting and watching a sheltie speciality in Orillia.   Julian will hopefully finish his championship, and we are going to bring out Jake for a run in the specials ring!  Speaking of Julian, he sired a litter of 5 in May.  So we know now he has the stuff, and is, in fact, tri factored--Always exciting to find those things out!

So, we will continue to trek on and keep chipping away at the "to do" list.  The dogs are loving the backyard, although keeping them out of the new garden can be challenging at times--they like to see how the vegetables are growing!  And they are very good at directing me when cutting the lawn!  Shelties are so talented at supervising!  Hopefully we finish our 10th homebred champion this summer and get some time to enjoy our deck.

July 2010

Well, we have had a very busy month.  The grooming has been hectic, the weeds have taken over the backyard, and we are boarding a lot of dogs it seems.  We did take a few days off at the end of the month to hit some dog shows.  Julian and his father Jake were taken to the Bracebridge dog show, where Julian finished his championship in style, taking winners and best of winners for 3 points.  Jake was Best of opposite against the Number 1 sheltie in Canada right now--not bad for a dog that hasn't been in the showring in 3 years!!   It was a tiring few days, but very nice.

I also found a bit of time to add some new pictures to the photo gallery!

October 2010

Where has the summer gone??  We certainly enjoyed the beautiful weather though.  The dogs have a very established racing track around the backyard.  We managed some more yardwork and got some trees trimmed and the weeds are finally gone!  Our garden did quite well-we enjoyed cucumbers and lots of tomatoes from the garden.  The peas didn't do well, and the onions and carrots are still up for debate, but the tomato plants produced loads of fruit--we still have lots waiting to ripen!!   We have decided to retire Linus and Kadie, so the retirees outnumber!  Hope will be 12 in December and still going strong!  Not signs of arthritis, and other than the selective hearing seems to have expanded, and slightly decreased sight, and a very white face, she is still the same Hope we have always known!!  Lucinda is currently in agility training (we are unsure whether this is her calling or not!), and Lisa Marie will be started in obedience soon as well.  We have no puppies upcoming, so I need something to do next year with the dogs!!   Lisa Marie will be bred next year, as well as Lucinda.  Should be an exciting year!
